It is hard to comprehend that the world’s greatest seven-year-old is no longer with us. It was just last week when we went to Ryson and Aspen’s school concert. He was sitting on my lap and we were singing the infamous “I Want To Hold Your Hand” to each other. He brought me to his classroom where he showed me around and before bed that night, we read Old Mother Goose rhymes to each other. My love for him is bottomless and the joy he brought into my life is immeasurable. My love for him will always continue and the joy he gave me will remain through our memories…..so many memories.

Jetter Better was the greatest nephew an aunt could ever ask for. He was the world’s best hugger, I like to call them “Jett-hugs.” We had a rule which was everyday we saw each other, I was entitled to at least one “Jett-hug” a day. If I was lucky enough, I got 2. Sometimes I even bribed him for 3. Last Christmas, he told me that he had wanted a Lego game. I did indeed go out and buy him the game he wanted and when he opened his gift and realized what he had received, a priceless grin appeared on his face and he tackled me and gave me the largest and longest hug I had ever received. That hug will be remembered for the rest of my life.

During my Spring Break this past year, I made the jaunt over to Butte and Bozeman to visit and before school one day, Jett packed his own lunch. When we looked into his lunch box he had packed 6 pieces of bacon, a fruit roll up and a bag of M&M’s. Mmmmm nutritious! We all made a mental note to never let Jetters pack his own lunch again. Apparently we had not learned our lesson because during the same week we had planned a ski trip up to Big Sky and Jett once again packed his own bag. It is a good thing Heather had decided to check what he had packed before we left because all he had packed was a nice sweater, sweat pants, and his swimming trunks. No snow pants. No socks. No underwear. Just a formal sweater and his sweat pants. At least he remembered his trunks for the swimming pool!
During the summers, we always meet up in Coeur d’ Alene and go to Jared’s basketball tournament. We had decided to go to dinner at Olive Garden and the wait was quite long. Instead of plainly sitting on a bench outside like normal people would do, Jett decided that he would rather go out into the grass and start doing some pushups….which he did. Jett was anything but normal which made him such a special little boy.

Jett was such a character and he told the greatest stories! He was an innovator of dance, knew every Bon Jovi song and was not afraid to sing and dance in front of anyone. This kid is 7! A couple months ago I came over to go to one of Ryson’s basketball games and Jett had created a new dance move which I thought was so terrific I decided to record it. This short clip is the epitome of Jett and his joy for life shines through his face.

Last 4th of July, we all went to the fireworks in Butte. Jett and Ryson rode home with me and Jett was in the middle and Ryson was in the passenger’s seat. We were rocking out to “Mustang Sally” by ZZ Top and of course Jett knew all the words. The chorus goes, “All you want to do is ride around Sally, ride, Sally, ride.” Jett stopped singing, looked up to me and asked, “Aunt Nicole? Is Sally a horse?” I just kind of looked at him and responded, “No silly! Sally is a girl!” not thinking anything of it and resumed my singing. Jett just sat there in silence for a few seconds and then asked, “How do you ride a girl?” I was stunned. This kid is 6! How in the world did he pick that up?! Trying to hold in my laughter (which was unsuccessful) and thinking of a quick response, I looked at him and said, “You know what? I think you ARE right. Sally MUST be a horse.” Jett sat there in silence for a few seconds longer and nonchalantly said, “No. I think she is an elephant.”

------------------------------------------------------------- I cannot wait until the day when Jett and I will be reunited and I will once again be receiving my daily "Jett-hugs."
