Aunt Heidi

Dear Jett,
Your 7 years, since the minute I watched you come into this world, have been a blessing to me. Because of the precious time I have been so fortunate to have spent with you, you have forever changed my life. I will always remember your big round eyes, your amazing smile that brightened my day every time I got to see you, your goofiness and wonderful sense of humor that made everyone around you laugh, and your sweet nature. Thank you Jett for being such an amazing nephew to Joe and I and incredible cousin to Lexi, soooo gentle and to Tayla, sooo patient when she wanted to play dog on a leash and made you be the dog. Or playing house and making you sit in “time out.” You have taught me all these qualities and I hope to be more like you in those ways. I thank God and you Heath for planning the precious time we recently had when you came to stay with us for two nights. It started off with carrying him to bed and taking your shoes off and a whole pile of dirt and rocks fell out of your shoes on the floor. So much that I had to vacuum! And when you woke I asked how you could even walk in those shoes. Then you making Tayla and I laugh while making up words about changing Lexi’s poopy diaper to the tune of “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life.” And then at breakfast when you asked me profound questions about God like, “Why doesn’t He talk back to us when we talk to Him?” And then going to Sunday School with Tayla and afterward, the teacher saying how sweet you were in helping the kids. Then we drove to lunch and sang the words to every song that came on the radio. Then we finished it off at Chinese buffet and you filled your plate with crab legs.
Jett, I know that you are face to face with God right now in the most glorious place, in a land where joys will never end. You little stinker. You beat us to Heaven! But I long for the day I Get to see y our face again.
Thank you Heather and Jared, for sharing your very special boy with me and doing such an incredible job raising him. You made him who he was! I have learned so much about parenting through you. It has been so beautiful to watch your family come together through this. Jared, I appreciate the insight and reflection you have shared with me about using this as motivation to become a better parent. And Heath, you have been nothing but a solid rock for everyone. Nan asked me how you were doing and I told her that and she said, “I KNEW IT!” That is who you are. I admire you. We will get through this together and hold each other up and trust in God for strength and comfort. And Heath, every year on May 25th and May 26th, when we celebrate Lexi’s birthday, we will honor Jett and rejoice!

Friend

I miss you Jett. Your buddy and pal Jeffrey Staton.

“Why”

Dearest Heather and Jared,

In these past hours, many have asked the question “why” did this happen? I do not know “why”. Only God the Father knows in total the “why”; however, I would like to share with you one reason, in part, as to, “why” based not on my thinking, but the thinking of the Word of God as the only source of Truth in this life and in eternity.

When Jesus was among among us, some two thousand years ago, his followers Mark, Matthew and John each as an eyewitness and Paul recorded these words that Jesus spoke as they were moved by the Spirit;

Then they brought the little children to Him, that He might touch them; ……….. "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took the little children up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.” Mark 10:13-16

…. as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” John 1:12.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” Acts 16.31

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10.17

The Father requires nothing from us but the simple faith of a child. There is nothing that we can do for God, for God has done everything for us, including the gift of His Son, and the gift of your son, Jett.

God the Father called Jett to heaven. All little children go to the Father at his appointed time. While Jett, as a child, would have gone to heaven anyway, Jett had believed on the name of the Lord, ….God the Son sent by God the Father,…..Jesus…..as the humanity who dwelt among us,………..Christ…… the annointed deliverer from death to Life, from darkness to Light. I know this to be true as witnessed by those at vacation bible school that he attended, by family members and myself.

As God gave His son as a gift, He so gave Jett as a gift to all of us as well. These are not the hollow words of a saddend grandfather, but the truth as demonstrated by the hundreds of people that Jett’s life touched.

Jett was the kindest, generous, giving and loving man who I really think I have ever known, unless it would equal of his brother Ryson or his sister Aspen. These last hours I have quietly listened to the words of those who stopped by the house giving comfort to the family. A grandmother who only some days ago Jett asked if he could rake the leaves in her yard; a seven year old boy. I don’t know many who did this when they were seven, certainly not me.  A boy whose teachers at Emerson related how kind and helpful he was to all the children in his classes and the respect he showed to his teachers. He was a delight to them all. For his sister’s birthday, he wanted to give her a gift. Jett had fifteen dollars in his piggy bank. He gave Aspen, fifteen dollars for her birthday, all that he had. Jett always liked to give hugs, unashamedly. He cared for and gave that mischevous twinkle in his eye and little grin to all of his cousins, aunts and uncles at one time or another. A hug to his grandfather’s and grandmothers, thanking them for taking him camping, for giving him a ride somewhere, for coming to his games or for making him scrambled eggs and sausage. Hugs all the time to a mother and father who loved him in all fullness and who he loved in total. The apple of a mother and father’s eye.

Jett demonstated love, grace, forgiveness, caring and helping all around him just as Jesus demonstrated his love, his grace, his forgiveness, his caring and his helping us, all of us.
Jett was truly a happy boy and the secret of his genuine happiness was that he thought of others before himself. I have learned from this. We all should learn from this.

This, I believe, is why the Father gave us Jett, just as he gave us Jesus. Jett manifested the essential characteristics and virtues of Jesus in his life. A genuine and real life that we might remember this Jett of His, this Jett of yours, of ours and follow his role model, as he demonstrated the model of Christ in his young life.

Last week, when we were here, as soon as we came into the house he said; “Grandma….Grandpa….I want to show you something….I want to show you my room”. It was all picked up, clean and orderly. “Awesome job Jett” and Grandma gave him a hug.

Jesus has prepared a room for Jett in heaven, a mansion and right now he is exploring all of heaven. And I have no doubt that when we each are called home, Jett will be waiting for us…… give us a hug and want to show us all his room and all of the cool places in heaven.

So may the Light of Jett’s life shine from your eyes to brighten all things you gaze upon just as he brightened our eyes with his powerful life, challenging us all to greater love and caring for each other, knowing that he yet lives and we all will see him soon and he is yet here and part of us all.

God bless you.

Love,

Grandpa Don and Grandma Keri

"Sparkly Jett" Travis, Josie, Gavin, & Jessie Trudgeon

Jetters & Gavin

Jett Lovshin embodied love and zest for his family, friends and time here.  Every time we got together with Jett, I'd think, "Now that's sparkle!"  I often thought how he had a look in his eyes like he knew something the rest of us didn't ...and it made him fearless and incredibly compassionate.

My first clear memory of him was when he was one.  His Aunt Heidi, my sister-in-law, was watching him.  I was pregnant, with Gavin, and putting together his baby-mobile.  Heidi and Jett stopped in to say hello and Jett began exploring the nursery.  He walked over to the birdie mobile and said, "Birdie ...Birdie!!"  He said it in a little squeaky boy voice and was so happy about the birds. I thought, "They don't get cuter than that!"

Gavin was born and he and Jett were buddies from the start.  Jett was beside Gavin for just about every birthday, many Halloween's, bonfires and Christmas tree outings.  Jett is in so many memories as the sparkly boy that took his friend's by the hand and made them feel welcome from the minute he spotted them.  He has an amazing family that nurtured and encouraged his energy and love, his wonder and sparkle!  My memories of Jett will continue to run, jump, smile, hug and uplift.  He represents love in action and there is no better way to leave your mark.

We love you Jett.  We love your Family.

Jett-Hugs by Aunt Nicole

It is hard to comprehend that the world’s greatest seven-year-old is no longer with us. It was just last week when we went to Ryson and Aspen’s school concert. He was sitting on my lap and we were singing the infamous “I Want To Hold Your Hand” to each other. He brought me to his classroom where he showed me around and before bed that night, we read Old Mother Goose rhymes to each other. My love for him is bottomless and the joy he brought into my life is immeasurable.  My love for him will always continue and the joy he gave me will remain through our memories…..so many memories.

Jetter Better was the greatest nephew an aunt could ever ask for. He was the world’s best hugger, I like to call them “Jett-hugs.” We had a rule which was everyday we saw each other, I was entitled to at least one “Jett-hug” a day. If I was lucky enough, I got 2. Sometimes I even bribed him for 3. Last Christmas, he told me that he had wanted a Lego game. I did indeed go out and buy him the game he wanted and when he opened his gift and realized what he had received, a priceless grin appeared on his face and he tackled me and gave me the largest and longest hug I had ever received. That hug will be remembered for the rest of my life.

During my Spring Break this past year, I made the jaunt over to Butte and Bozeman to visit and before school one day, Jett packed his own lunch. When we looked into his lunch box he had packed 6 pieces of bacon, a fruit roll up and a bag of M&M’s. Mmmmm nutritious! We all made a mental note to never let Jetters pack his own lunch again. Apparently we had not learned our lesson because during the same week we had planned a ski trip up to Big Sky and Jett once again packed his own bag. It is a good thing Heather had decided to check what he had packed before we left because all he had packed was a nice sweater, sweat pants, and his swimming trunks. No snow pants. No socks. No underwear. Just a formal sweater and his sweat pants. At least he remembered his trunks for the swimming pool!
During the summers, we always meet up in Coeur d’ Alene and go to Jared’s basketball tournament. We had decided to go to dinner at Olive Garden and the wait was quite long. Instead of plainly sitting on a bench outside like normal people would do, Jett decided that he would rather go out into the grass and start doing some pushups….which he did. Jett was anything but normal which made him such a special little boy.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Jett was such a character and he told the greatest stories! He was an innovator of dance, knew every Bon Jovi song and was not afraid to sing and dance in front of anyone. This kid is 7! A couple months ago I came over to go to one of Ryson’s basketball games and Jett had created a new dance move which I thought was so terrific I decided to record it. This short clip is the epitome of Jett and his joy for life shines through his face.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Last 4th of July, we all went to the fireworks in Butte. Jett and Ryson rode home with me and Jett was in the middle and Ryson was in the passenger’s seat. We were rocking out to “Mustang Sally” by ZZ Top and of course Jett knew all the words. The chorus goes, “All you want to do is ride around Sally, ride, Sally, ride.” Jett stopped singing, looked up to me and asked, “Aunt Nicole? Is Sally a horse?” I just kind of looked at him and responded, “No silly! Sally is a girl!” not thinking anything of it and resumed my singing. Jett just sat there in silence for a few seconds and then asked, “How do you ride a girl?” I was stunned. This kid is 6! How in the world did he pick that up?! Trying to hold in my laughter (which was unsuccessful) and thinking of a quick response, I looked at him and said, “You know what? I think you ARE right. Sally MUST be a horse.” Jett sat there in silence for a few seconds longer and nonchalantly said, “No. I think she is an elephant.”

I cannot wait until the day when Jett and I will be reunited and I will once again be receiving my daily "Jett-hugs."
